Omuraya Brewing Company
The oldest existing brewery in Shizuoka Prefecture started in 1832 as a guest house to accommodate travelers from Edo (Tokyo) with sake brewed with water from the beautiful local Oi River. Omuraya has survived the downturns while all other breweries in Shimada City went bankrupt during the 70s. The 5th generation brewer Jiro Matsunaga supported by the local business community “Wakatake” helped Omuraya come back and release the now-world-famous brand “Onikoroshi” using the recipe passed down from the ancient times.
