Doi Brewing Company
The brewery’s brand Takatenjin is named after an old castle in Kakegawa, Shizuoka prefecture, which fell to the great Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1581. While the Doi family traces its roots back to this era, Doi Brewing Company itself was founded in 1872. Their other brand, Kaiun, means “to attract good fortune.” Luckily for them, the area gets so much sunshine year-round that the brewery is able to operate mostly by solar power. Shizuoka also has the most wasabi farms in Japan, and is famous for tea. Both are testaments to the pristine water that is the source for the brewery’s sake.
